Florida Homeschooling... Evaluations and More |
A good evaluator works for the parents, assisting them in meeting legal requirements and in supporting them when districts overstep their bounds." |
Q: I'm moving out of the state. I know I have to send in a letter of termination, but if my child's evaluation isn't due yet, do I have to have one done? --------- A: UPDATED: Florida law changed on this in 2018. Effective July 1, 2018, an evaluation is required within 30 days of sending in a Letter of Termination telling the county that you are done home educating your child in their county. If the move is within Florida, moving from one county to another, effective October 2020, the Florida Department of Education's Office of Choice's policy is that you should notify the new county that your child was home educated in the old county so they can request records from the old county and the child's evaluation deadline will not change.
It is recommended that you also notify the old county and ask them to forward records to the new county, just to be sure. If the move is within the county, send the county a notice of the change of address so that any official communication mailed out will reach you without issues.
