I frequently am asked “What curriculum should I use with my preschooler?”

After teaching a lot of preschoolers in my home (including almost two dozen foster children in addition to our own forever children), I’ve learned a lot about what works with most young children and what doesn’t. I’ve learned that there’s no perfect curriculum that will be the best fit for everyone. I’ve become convinced that no literate adult really needs a curriculum to teach a preschooler. The average preschooler doesn’t want lots of workbooks, doesn’t want to sit for long periods of time, and doesn’t need a well-organized plan of study. A preschooler needs someone to expose him to interesting new ideas, give him age-appropriate things to do, keep him physically and mentally engaged, and entice him to want to learn more.
